How it started...

Motherhood can do some strange things to you, well it did for me! With a toddler running around and childproof locks on every cupboard and door I started to think more about what was in my home. 

I really wanted to get back into making my own cleaning products, being a DIY type of gal I tried it before, but failed to keep going. Grating soap bars was annoying and vinegar and bicarb cleaned diddly-squat! 

This time I wanted to understand what the big commercial brands did and try replicate it at home. I started with an ingredient list from one very well known dishwasher tablet and one by one I went into hyper focus learning. 

I looked into where each ingredient came from, how it was made, the impact from production, alternatives as well as the fun part - the chemistry of cleaning! This is where I learned what ingredients do what and how the system works.

...this is when my eyes were opened and rage set it...

I pulled out every single cleaner from under my kitchen, bathroom and laundry sinks and Under Your Sink was born. 

The light bulb moment...

I narrowed down the ingredients that I could trust, confirmed their scientific cleaning function and built a toolkit.

I tested, tweaked, trialled and cleaned my heart out to see what worked and what did not. I have also spoken to man customers over the years about what worked for them too,

Now, instead of focussing on the millions of chemicals and what I can't control. I focussed on what I can control.

The non-negotiables...

Running this on my own means I get to decide how it works. These are the lines I don't cross, including the ones that cost me money.

• I only sell what's in my own cupboard
  Every ingredient here is one I use at home. If I haven't tested it in my own house, on my own washing, it doesn't get a product page.
  
  
• No single use plastic waste
  Home compostable earth bags for refills, amber glass for storage. Plastic would be cheaper and it would survive the post better. The answer is still no.
  
  
• Pure, never padded out
  What's on the label is what's in the bag. No fillers to make a bag look bigger, no fragrance covering for a cheaper base underneath.
  
  
• Tell you what it is, in plain words
  Full names, proper terms, and an explanation of what each one does. The whole reason I started was not being able to find that out easily.
  
  
• No scare tactics
  You'll never get fear or guilt from me about what's currently under your sink. Information, then it's your call. You're the one who knows your house and your budget.
  
  
• Packed by these two hands
  Every order, every note. There's no warehouse and no packing team, which is exactly why I know what's gone into your box.
