Oven Cleaner

DIY CLEANING RECIPE

This recipe is for a multi-purpose cleaning paste also known as 'Laundry Butter'. However its definitely not limited the laundry!

It’s designed to degrease and loosen baked on food. It works well for regular maintenance and lighter build-up. For heavier jobs, it can be supercharged with sodium percarbonate after it has been made.

Recipe & Instructions

🫙 Makes: Approx. 1 to 1.5litres of paste  🕝 Time: 2 minutes + cooling time

INGREDIENTS

  • Coconut Soap Flakes: 1/2 cup
  • Washing Soda: 1/2 cup
  • Borax: 1/2 cup
  • Boiling water: 3–4 cups

METHOD

  1. Add all dry ingredients to a large heatproof bowl or container, taking care to avoid inhaling any dust.
  2. Carefully pour over the boiling water and stir until everything has dissolved.
  3. Allow the mixture to cool. As it cools, it will thicken into a paste.

This step is optional:
Once cooled, use a stick blender or mash with a fork until smooth and creamy. It will end up looking a bit like buttercream icing, so please make sure nobody mistakes it for food! This only changes the texture, making it easier to add essential oils or spread onto surfaces. It does not change the cleaning performance.

How to use it
Please read this Oven Cleaning Guide for the best way to clean the oven and use this paste.

Shelf life of the paste
When stored in a sealed container, the paste lasts 12 months or more. If it dries out over time, simply add a little boiling water and remix.

How to supercharge your paste

For tougher jobs, you can boost the paste at the time of use only.

  1. Scoop out the amount you need into a separate bowl.
  2. Add 1–2 teaspoons of sodium percarbonate.
  3. Add boiling water slowly until it bubbles and activates.
  4. Apply, scrub, then rinse well.

⚠️ Do not store paste that has been activated with percarbonate. Discard leftovers after use.

Take care

  • Avoid aluminium and painted or varnished surfaces.
  • Store in an airtight container

⚠️ Must be kept away from children and pets, this can be dangerous if consumed.

Adding essential oils

You can add them for general cleaning but it’s not recommended for oven cleaning.
