How to use Sodium Percarbonate
A quick simple lesson Sodium Carbonate. We look out how to use it in a practical way as well as important storage and safety information you should know before use.
You need heated water to get percarbonate activated (into its cleaning state). Think about the surface you’re cleaning and how much heat it can tolerate. Some fabrics may be best in warm water, while an oven rack can withstand boiling water.
The hotter the water the more it will bubble, foam and physically rise, so make sure you don’t fill your container. The more product you use, the more it rises too! So only use a small amount at a time otherwise overflow from your container.
Soaking items in warm water will require more time than soaking in hot/boiling water. However, it will stay activated for longer in warm water (up to six hours) and less when the water is hotter (1-2 hours).
In both cases, dispose of any activated percarbonate solution when you’re finished. Only store it in its powder state which can store up to 2 years in perfect airtight conditions.
You MUST keep it stored away from tiny hands and pets! It is dangerous if consumed! Handle it with care, do not breathe it in or get any in your eyes/mouth.
It’s also important to store away from moisture and light to keep it fresher for longer. Glass jars are the best solution.
