This glycerine is a bit different to the other ingredients in the toolkit. It doesn’t do the cleaning itself, but it’s brilliant at supporting the ingredients that do. It helps recipes stay blended, improves texture, prevents separation, and is hands-down one of the best moisturisers for dry skin.

A little goes a long way, whether you’re making DIY cleaning products or simple beauty recipes.

Why you’ll use this

Glycerine (also called glycerol) is a clear, syrupy liquid that’s completely odourless and slightly sweet. It feels a bit like an oil, but it’s actually water-soluble, which makes it incredibly versatile in DIY recipes.

Vegetable glycerine is most commonly derived from plant oils such as soy, coconut, or palm. The one I stock is palm-free, non-GMO, and USP grade, which means it’s pharmaceutical quality.

Fun fact: glycerine is naturally created during soap making. In traditional soaps, it’s produced during saponification and often removed in commercial products. In DIY, we get to keep and use it.
