Oven Cleaning Paste Recipe

Ever had to evacuate your house because you decided to clean your oven? The fumes so bad your sure it must be ripping off that grime and grease – only to return home and realise you still need some elbow grease among gasping for air.

Well, there is a more natural and cheaper alternative to those horrid oven cleaners. And the tip is, if you do this every 2-3 weeks the job won’t be as bad as when you leave it for months!! Although I am also a culprit of the later ☹

A lot of homemade oven cleaner recipes call for Bicarb Soda, but it is not as alkaline as its cousin Washing Soda and not as effective. Bicarb is best for softening water and Washing Soda is better as removing grime and dirt. I will go into the science a bit more in another blog.

Again, this is not miracle working oven cleaner that upon use turns your oven into new. No matter what you do, your going to have to do a bit of scrubbing. So why not put your head in an oven of Eucalyptus filled natural washing soda than toxic fumes that can rip your lungs apart.

  • 1/4 cup Washing Soda
  • 1/4 cup Organic Coconut Soap Flakes
  • 1/4 cup Bicarb Soda
  • 15 drops Essential Oils
  • 1/2 cup water

  1. Add all your powder ingredients into the bowl, taking care not to breathe in the raised dust
  2. Add the essential oil & water until if forms a paste
  3. Using gloves or a cloth (as its highly alkaline) spread the paste inside the oven - please make sure its off!!) TIP: you may want to soak the trays/racks overnight in the same mixture.
  4. Let the paste sit for around 15-30 minutes then scrub gently to loosen & remove the dried powder.
  5. Wipe down with hot water & a clean rag
