Laundry Butter Cleaning Paste Recipe

Laundry Butter is an old recipe that has been around well before our time, but it's not limited to the laundry. It's an ideal cleaning paste that you can use for tough jobs all around the home. You can make big batches & store for ages as well as add extra ingredients to it as you go along.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (250g) Washing Soda
  • 1 cup (200g) Borax
  • 1 cup (150g) Organic Coconut Soap Flakes
  • 1.5L Distilled/Boiled Water

Instructions

METHOD 1

  1. In a large pot, heat the water, no need to boil it.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the powder ingredients TAKE CARE not to breathe in any of the raised dust
  3. Add approx. 1/4 cup of the mixture to the water at a time, whisking until it has dissolved. Keep going until all the powder mix is used & the mixture will now be thicker
  4. Cover your pot with a lid so its airtight & leave overnight to set.
  5. Once set, using a stick blender whizz until mixture is a nice buttercream texture.
  6. Store in an airtight jar or container.

METHOD 2

  1. Boil 1.5L water in the kettle
  2. Add all the dry ingredients into a large pot, mix well taking care not to breathe the raised dust
  3. Add the boiling water & carefully whizz with stick blender
  4. Cover your pot with a lid so its airtight & leave overnight to set.
  5. Once set, using a stick blender whizz again until mixture is a nice buttercream texture.
  6. Store in an airtight jar or container.

Makes

This recipe will make approx. 2L/2kg of Laundry Butter.

How to use it

In the Laundry

- Use in your washing machine much like you would any laundry powder/liquid. You can add 1-2 tablespoons directly to compartment in your washing machine or directly to the water. You can dilute a bit first if necessary & as its low in suds you can use in a top or front loader.
- Use the paste directly on a stain & give a gentle scrub

In the Kitchen

- Dilute 1-2 tablespoons in 1 cup of warm water & use with a scrub pad to clean ovens, fridges, bins, bench's etc
- Use 1 tablespoons as emergency dishwasher tablets
- You can use to scrub greasy pots & pans

In the Bathroom

- Dilute 1-2 tablespoons in 1 cup of warm water, add some essential oils & even some Crystal Clear Percabonate. Then simply use a scrub pad/brush to clean the bath, shower, sinks. You can even add some to your toilet brush to clean the loo.
