Dishwasher Rinse Aid

Dishwasher Rinse Aid

If you've ever used a dishwasher, you know how important it is to have a good rinse aid to prevent streaks and water spots on your dishes. But have you ever stopped to think about what's in the rinse aid you're using?

Many commercial rinse aids contain chemicals that can be harmful to both you and the environment. The good news is that you can make your own natural dishwasher rinse aid with just a few simple ingredients and in this article we will show you how.

Solution 1: White Vinegar

One of the easiest and most effective ways to make your own rinse aid is to use white vinegar. Just fill the rinse aid compartment with white vinegar and run your dishwasher as usual. The vinegar will help to break down any remaining food particles and prevent water spots on your dishes.

Use the white vinegar found in the food isle (next to the balsamic) this is made from fermented grains. The cleaning vinegar that has 'do not consume' on it, is a mix of 95% water with acedic acid which may be petroleum derived.

Solution 2: Citric Acid

Another great option for a natural rinse aid is citric acid. Simply mix 1 teaspoon of citric acid with 1 cup of water and add it to the rinse aid compartment. Citric acid is a natural acid found in citrus fruits and is a great alternative to commercial rinse aids.

Adding essential oils

If you want to add a pleasant scent to your natural rinse aid, you can add a few drops of essential oils. Lemon, orange, and grapefruit essential oils are great options and will leave your dishes smelling fresh and clean.

Will vinegar ruin the seals in my dishwasher?

The word on the street is it will ruin the seals because it's acidic. If you research the pH of most Rinse Aids they range from 2-6 making them all acidic solutions. Corrosion will occur over time no matter what, that's why we need to clean & maintain the dishwasher but please only do what you are comfortable with.

Conclusion

Making your own natural dishwasher rinse aid is easy, cost-effective, and better for your health and the environment. Give it a try and see the difference it can make in the cleanliness and appearance of your dishes.
